Where to turn?

Rubinhealth.com has been up for a couple of months and I really love the opportunity to post my thoughts on healthcare and reform.  The blog is really just an extension of my radio show, Healthcare Connect on Sirius 114/XM 119, each Thursday.  I am happy with how many hits we get each day and the number of new viewers grows each week.  While I do not get many questions on the site, I tend to hear one consistent problem in all the emails sent to me – “where do I go for healthcare insurance because I can not get any coverage?”  More often than not, the inability to get coverage is the result of a preexisting condition.  This issue represents to me the biggest failure in our healthcare system today.  I get so upset when good hard working people, who are willing to pay premiums, cannot find anyone willing to provide them insurance.  It’s a national disgrace…
Last week I had a physician on my radio show who was convinced we do not need to raise any new money (taxes) for healthcare reform and that all the money should come from the waste in the current healthcare system.  I thought it was the most selfish and naive conversation I have had on the radio in a long time.  Not because there is no waste in the current system – believe me, there is plenty.  I thought his argument was flawed because to get all the waste out would take years and even then there would not be enough to make sure everyone in this country has access to affordable healthcare insurance.  We have a lot of work do to reform the current system but let’s get the process moving and make sure all people in this country can get the protection and peace of mind they deserve.   We can correct the mistakes in whatever legislation passes in the next few months.
